Whether you visit in summer or winter, there’s always something unforgettable to experience. Here are eight fantastic activities you shouldn’t miss in the Jungfrau area of Switzerland.

1. Visit Jungfraujoch – The “Top of Europe”

No trip to the Jungfrau region is complete without a visit to the Jungfraujoch, one of Europe’s most famous mountain destinations. Reached by a scenic cogwheel train from Kleine Scheidegg, the Jungfraujoch station sits at a staggering 3,454 meters above sea level. Once there, you’ll be surrounded by dazzling snowfields, the Aletsch Glacier, and sweeping panoramas that seem to stretch forever. Don’t miss the Ice Palace, an underground gallery carved entirely from ice, or the Sphinx Terrace, offering jaw-dropping views of the Alps.

2. Explore Lauterbrunnen Valley – The Valley of 72 Waterfalls

Often described as one of the most beautiful valleys in the world, Lauterbrunnen is a fairytale landscape of sheer cliffs, alpine meadows, and cascading waterfalls. The famous Staubbach Falls, plunging nearly 300 meters, is visible right from the village. Take a gentle hike to Trümmelbach Falls, a series of powerful waterfalls hidden inside a mountain, accessible by tunnel lifts and walkways. In spring and summer, wildflowers blanket the valley, making it a paradise for photographers and nature lovers.

3. Take the Cable Car to Schilthorn and Dine at Piz Gloria

Adventure meets cinematic history at Schilthorn, a mountain peak made famous by the James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. A thrilling cable car ride from Mürren takes you up to Piz Gloria, a revolving restaurant that rotates 360 degrees every hour. As you enjoy your Swiss rösti or hot chocolate, you’ll be treated to incredible views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Don’t miss the interactive Bond World 007 exhibition — a fun experience for movie fans and families alike.

4. Hike from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg

For an easy yet breathtaking alpine hike, the Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg trail is a must. Known as the “Royal Walk,” it offers postcard-perfect views of the Eiger North Face and the lush Grindelwald Valley below. The trail is mostly flat and suitable for families, with panoramic benches and viewpoints along the way. On clear days, it’s one of the most scenic walks in all of Switzerland.

5. Discover the Village of Grindelwald

Grindelwald is the beating heart of the Jungfrau region — a lively mountain village surrounded by glaciers and rugged peaks. In summer, it’s a base for hiking, biking, and paragliding, while in winter, it transforms into a skiing and snowboarding paradise. Take the First Flyer zipline for an adrenaline rush, or visit the First Cliff Walk by Tissot, a suspended metal walkway that hugs the mountainside and ends in a thrilling sky platform overlooking the valley.

6. Ride the Harder Kulm Funicular in Interlaken

If you’re staying in Interlaken, make sure to ride the Harder Kulm funicular up to the best viewpoint in town. In just ten minutes, you’ll reach the “Top of Interlaken,” where a glass viewing platform juts dramatically over the valley. From here, you can see both Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, framed by the majestic Jungfrau peaks. It’s especially magical at sunset, when the sky turns golden over the Alps.

7. Experience Winter Sports in Wengen or Mürren

When winter blankets the Jungfrau in snow, the region turns into a world-class ski destination. Wengen, famous for hosting the annual Lauberhorn ski race, offers excellent pistes and charming chalets. Mürren, accessible only by cable car, provides a quieter, car-free atmosphere perfect for skiing, snowshoeing, or simply sipping hot chocolate with a mountain view. Both villages offer family-friendly slopes and a quintessential Swiss alpine experience.

8. Take a Scenic Train Ride Through the Alps

Switzerland’s train system is legendary, and the Jungfrau region is home to some of the most beautiful routes in the country. The Bernese Oberland Railway connects Interlaken with Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald, offering unforgettable views of rolling meadows, glacial rivers, and dramatic mountain peaks. For the ultimate experience, combine your trip with a journey on the Jungfrau Railway, which climbs through tunnels carved inside the Eiger to reach the Top of Europe.

A Region of Timeless Alpine Beauty

The Jungfrau area is more than just a destination—it’s a living postcard of everything Switzerland represents: majestic nature, precision, serenity, and adventure. Whether you’re scaling peaks, wandering through storybook villages, or savoring Swiss fondue under the stars, every moment here feels magical. From adrenaline-packed adventures to peaceful mountain strolls, the Jungfrau region promises memories that will stay with you forever.
